There are 5 different types of characters in Japanese.

①Hiragana
Japanese traditional characters
＊transformed from ③Kanji
＊used for Japanese words
＊there are 46 characters in hiragana
e.g. こんにちは(kon'nichiwa), すし(sushi)

②Katakana
Japanese traditional characters
＊transformed from part of ③Kanji
＊used for foreign words
＊there are 46 characters in katakana corresponding to hiragana
e.g. アメリカ(amerika), アイスクリーム(aisukuriimu)

③Kanji
Characters originally from China but there are many kanjis which were made in Japan as well.
One kanji has about 2-3 hiraganas (as meaning and pronunciation) so in Japanese, we can write sentences shorter like ;
わたしは　にほんじんです。　ーI am Japanese.
(watashi wa nihonjin desu.)
→私は　日本人です。　ーI am Japanese.
(watashi wa nihonjin desu.)

There are more than 50,000 kanjis exist in kanji dictionary but in general, Japanese adults know around 3,500-4,000 kanjis.
Japanese children (age 6-12) learn 1,026 kanjis in elementary school.
In daily life, we need 2,136 kanjis (kanji for common use).

In this lesson, I teach you simple ③kanji which Japanese children learn in elementary school.
The level is divided into 6 (1,026 kanjis in total).
This lesson is for beginners, so I teach you 80 kanjis from the level 1.
I teach 5 kanjis per lesson.

Kanji is difficult and complicated but when you know some simple kanjis you may guess the meaning and pronunciation of new kanji from the knowledge.
