Introductory lesson

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the Russian alphabet, understand basic vocabulary related to relationships, parts of the body, and construct simple sentences.
Lesson Outline

▎1. Introduction (7 minutes)

* Greeting: Begin with a warm welcome in Russian.

* Objective Overview: Explain what will be covered in the lesson: the Russian alphabet, vocabulary related to relationships, and parts of the body.

▎2. The Russian Alphabet (10 minutes)

* Presentation (5 minutes): 

  • Introduce the Russian alphabet (А-Я) 
  • Go through each letter, providing the sound it makes and an example word.

  • Highlight letters that may look similar to English but sound different (e.g., В, Е, Н).

* Practice (5 minutes):

    • Quick quiz: Show the letters and ask students to identify them.

▎3. Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes)

* Relationships Vocabulary (5 minutes):

  • Introduce vocabulary related to relationships:

    • друг (friend)

    • подруга (female friend)

    • семья (family)

    • любимый/любимая (beloved)

    • муж (husband)

    • жена (wife)

    
  • Use cards with images and words to memorise

  • Practice pronunciation of the vocabulary.

* Parts of the Body Vocabulary (5 minutes):

  • Introduce vocabulary for parts of the body:

    • голова (head)

    • рука (arm)

    • нога (leg)

    • глаз (eye)

    • ухо (ear)

    
  • Again, use cards for visual support.

  • Encourage students to repeat and practice pronunciation.

▎4. Sentence Construction (5 minutes)

* Basic Sentences:  • Teach students how to form simple sentences using the vocabulary learned:

    • У меня есть друг. (I have a friend.)

    • Это моя семья. (This is my family.)

    • У меня болит голова. (I have a headache.)

  
* Practice in making up create their own sentences using the vocabulary.
* Speaking Activity:

  • In pairs, students take turns describing a relationship or a part of the body using vocabulary learned.
