In this lesson, we'll work on improving your speaking and listening skills (can also involve reading and/or writing, if desired). This lesson is for adults or children age 8 and up.

The lesson may involve:

- free conversation on a topic chosen by you or me
- reading a dialogue together and then improvising changes to it
- listening to me read an article and you answer questions about it  (more advanced)
- listening to a short video chosen by you or me and discussing it
- discussing an article you have already read (chosen in advance)

Conversational English for Elementary to Advanced

Structured individualized lessons for beginning adult learners or children age 8 and up.

If you don't know how to speak much English yet, this is for you.
Each lesson will take you step by step through making sentences. 
Through pictures and fill in the blanks, you will practice making English sentences and answering questions.
You will learn how to describe pictures, different professions, sports, etc. 
Please book this lesson several days in advance to allow for preparation time.

English for Beginners to Elementary Level

In this lesson, we may work on pronunciation through:
~ dialogues (beginner through advanced)
~ working through a comprehensive guide on American English (book can be bought by student if desired)
~ listening to videos (advanced)
~ listening to songs (elementary through advanced)

Students will learn about:
~ American vowels, word stress, rhythm, consonants, intonation
~ pronunciation of phrases in connected speech

I'm a native English speaker and speak Standard American English. There are different varieties of spoken English in the US, and if anything, I may speak a "Western" variety of American English since I have spent most of my life on the West Coast. This means I don't make any difference between "cot" and "caught", for example. I studied Clinical Phonetics in speech language pathology and know IPA (the International Phonetic Alphabet). I also may try to relate American English sounds to those in other languages I have studied (French, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, German). 

Although a one-hour lesson is offered, it's not necessarily recommended to take a one-hour pronunciation lesson as it will be fairly tiring. You're welcome to try 30 minutes and see if this lesson is for you. Audio recordings of lessons may be available for review and study if desired, depending on the platform you choose.

American English Pronunciation Lesson

Want to learn English in a fun way? Do you like singing songs in English? 
I can help you with:
- pronunciation of the words in English
- the meaning of the lyrics (what does the song mean?) 
- even learning how to sing it (I have years of training in music and voice)

Note: this is an English lesson through music, not a singing lesson.
