Class description

In this course you will read one of the most fascinating books ever published, Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl, the Austrian psychiatrist who survived the Nazi concentration camps of the Holocaust. The course lasts for 6 weeks, one lesson per week. Each week you will read a bit of the book BEFORE the lesson. Then, in our lesson we will meet to discuss what we have read. The course includes homework and extra materials. This book is perfect for anyone with an interest in psychology, history and the human experience. The course is suitable for C1 - C2 level students (Advanced). Because the subject matter is very serious and complex, it requires some concentration to fully understand. The first half of the book follows a narrative and is easier to understand. The second half of the book is more academic and requires serious concentration. About the book: I believe this book to be essential reading for every human being. With heart-wrenching personal experiences of one of the greatest minds to have put pen to paper in the 20th Century, this book will change how you see the world. This is not a record of the Holocaust, nor does it seek to understand the horrors that were committed, it is a journey into the human soul in search for meaning in the darkest of times. ***IMPORTANT - It is necessary to buy or download your own copy of the book and you will be asked to read a few chapters each week BEFORE the lesson*** ***IMPORTANT - please use the same version of the book that you can see in the picture - Please ask me if you are unsure which book to buy/download*** Reading Schedule: Class 1: Preface by Gordon W. Allport & Preface to the 1992 edition Class 2: First half of Part 1: Experiences in a Concentration Camp Class 3: Second half of Part 1: Experiences in a Concentration Camp Class 4: First half of Part 2: Logotherapy in a Nutshell Class 5: Second half of Part 2: Logotherapy in a Nutshell & Postscript Class 6: Reflections & Review
