Class description

Do you like board games? Did you know that you can learn English with board games? Like movies, games give us the chance to practice language while having fun. In this class, we'll learn to play several English language board games, and in the process, master new vocabulary, grammar structures, and informal expressions. This class is for students levels B1-B2 and is primarily speaking-based. No previous game experience required!

After this class, you’ll have learned

In this class, you will learn/practice: -The rules for several popular games. (The games we play will depend on the group, but possibilities include Taboo, Alias, Balderdash, Pictionary, Guess Who, 20 Questions, Codenames, and 5 Second Rule.) -Informal expressions, or "table talk" for speaking with other game players -Giving descriptions -Vocabulary (Example: Phrasal verbs) -Grammar structures (Examples: Imperative sentences and asking questions)

Meet your teacher

Ellie Hoffman

I first began teaching at age 13, when I started a violin studio in my home for local students. Since then, I have expanded my scope and experience in teaching, first by leading educational programs at a museum, and then by obtaining a certificate in TESOL. I have continued to work as a violin instructor through fine arts centers and have taken several professional training courses with the Suzuki Association of the Americas music program. In addition, I've worked as a writing coach, providing feedback and instruction on student papers. Finally, last year, I spent 7 months in France as a language assistant, teaching ESL classes on vocabulary, pronunciation, and American culture.
