As a class, we will read and I will listen for any pronunciation errors. You will receive individual feedback during the class. Please come prepared with a set of 5 questions that you can ask another student. After the question session, we will delve into in-depth vocabulary, phrasal verbs, and idioms related to the topic.
After this class, you’ll have learned
Reading an article and learning new vocabulary and idioms can greatly improve an ESL student's learning by enhancing their language skills in multiple ways. Here are some specific ways in which these activities can be beneficial:
Expanding vocabulary: When students read articles, they come across new words and phrases that they may not have encountered before. This exposure to new vocabulary can help them expand their knowledge of the language and improve their ability to communicate effectively.
Enhancing comprehension: Reading an article can help students develop their comprehension skills by exposing them to different writing styles, structures, and ideas. This can help them better understand the nuances of the language and improve their ability to comprehend and interpret written material.
Practising pronunciation: Listening to others read the article or having discussions with other students can help ESL learners practise their pronunciation skills. They can receive feedback from their peers or the teacher on their pronunciation and intonation, which can help them improve their spoken English.
Building confidence: Having conversations with other students can help ESL learners build their confidence in using English to communicate. They can practise their speaking skills in a safe and supportive environment and receive feedback on their performance.
Learning idiomatic expressions: Exposure to idiomatic expressions in the article and discussions with other students can help ESL learners better understand the nuances of the language and its cultural context. This can help them communicate more effectively in real-world situations.
