“What Ails You?”: Phrasal Verbs for Discussing Illness

Class description

This lesson will introduce students to a selection of phrasal verbs used to describe the symptoms of common illnesses. Students will learn how to discuss the subject of illness in everyday conversation and when speaking with medical professionals such as doctors and nurses. Following a class discussion, students will work together to solve two related tasks (match-up and gap-fill) before role-playing as doctors and patients. During the lesson, students can also expect to discover additional vocabulary relevant to the topic. Finally, a homework activity will be provided to give students the opportunity to practice these phrasal verbs and demonstrate their understanding in writing.

After this class, you’ll have learned

Students will learn ten phrasal verbs and how to use these appropriately in conversation and writing. Through the group activities and class discussion, students should also gain confidence in discussing health issues.
