Class description

It's been over a year since the world embraced the wonders (and occasional blunders) of artificial intelligence. Things like art-generating AI, ChatGPT, autonomous delivery drones have woven themselves into the fabric of everyday life. But are we truly understanding the implications of this intertwined existence? Do people really understand the nature of the technology they are using or are they assuming it thinks or feels things it is not capable of doing. This conversation-based class for intermediate and advanced English learners delves beyond the hype and headlines to explore the human side of the AI revolution. We'll take a critical look at how we interact with and utilize this powerful technology, asking questions like: • Are we too trusting of AI's capabilities? • Is responsibility shifting? As AI takes on new tasks, from writing news articles to diagnosing diseases, where does human accountability lay? • How has education and language learning changed in just a short time? • Can we cultivate ethical and responsible AI users? No prior experience or extensive knowledge of AI is required, just a curious mind and a desire to participate in a meaningful conversation about the future we're shaping together. So, buckle up, fellow humans, and prepare to talk about the new world we live in.
