This lesson explores the idea of selfishness and selflessness, encouraging students to reflect on human behavior and where they fall on the spectrum. Through discussion and debate, students examine whether being selfish is always negative and how personal values influence our actions.

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Discuss the concepts of selfishness and selflessness using appropriate vocabulary Explain and justify opinions about whether selfish behavior can be positive or negative Use key vocabulary (e.g. altruism, self-interest, narcissist) accurately in conversation Reflect on personal behavior and describe their position on a selfish–selfless spectrum Engage in discussion and debate by responding to others’ ideas and giving reasons Complete a ranking or opinion task using clear, structured spoken language
