Class description

Welcome to Global Conversation Café! This is not a typical English class. Here, you are the director of the conversation. Your curiosity fuels our discussion. In this session, each student will bring 3-4 of their own thought-provoking questions—questions they genuinely want to ask people from different cultures and backgrounds. What are you curious about? It could be about daily life, values, technology, the environment, or timeless human experiences. My goal is to create a dynamic, open group discussion where we explore these questions together, imagining diverse global perspectives and sharing our own. By stepping into this international forum, you will move beyond textbook exercises and engage in authentic, meaningful exchange. This is a safe space to practice the real magic of language: connecting with others, exchanging ideas, and broadening your worldview—all while significantly enhancing your practical communication skills.

After this class, you’ll have learned

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Formulate and articulate original, open-ended questions designed to spark discussion and elicit diverse opinions, moving beyond simple "yes/no" inquiries. Employ active listening strategies in a multi-speaker conversation, including acknowledging others' points, asking follow-up questions for clarity, and building upon shared ideas. Demonstrate improved conversational fluency and adaptability by expressing opinions, agreeing or disagreeing politely, and navigating the natural flow of a group discussion in English. Apply critical thinking and cultural empathy by considering and articulating potential viewpoints from a variety of global and cultural perspectives. Participate with increased confidence in spontaneous spoken English, managing hesitation and contributing meaningfully within a supportive group environment.
