Saying a word twice. It sounds trivial. It is not — and it is one of the fastest ways to stop sounding like a textbook. Reduplication is a genuine grammatical device. Most of the world's languages use it to do real work, and Malayalam uses it constantly, in ways no course teaches. Start with one you already know. ശരി (shari) means right, okay, fine. Doubled, it means something different: ശരി ശരി (shari shari) — yes yes, I understand, move on. Agreement plus a slight hurry. And its relatives: ഇല്ല ഇല്ല (illa illa) — no no. Not three refusals. One emphatic one. വേണ്ട വേണ്ട (venda venda) — no no, really, no need. What you will say at a Kerala dinner table, twice, before they serve you anyway. മതി മതി (mathi mathi) — enough, enough. Notice that none of these is simply the word twice. Doubling changes the meaning, the urgency, or the politeness — and English speakers who never double sound oddly flat and oddly formal.
