Grammar Point: The verb (to be) boodan
While reading the Conversation, you might have wondered why the counterpart of the English verb “is” in Farsi (ast )
had different forms in different places. For instance, when Nasrin introduced her husband to her mom, she said, In
Dānieleh (This is Daniel). In another place, Nasrin asked her mom, Farzād kojāst? (Where is
Farzad?).
Like English, Farsi also uses both full and contracted forms of the verb to be. In English, we can say, “I am happy,” “Jane is
beautiful,” and “You are smart,” or we can contract the verb and say, “I’m happy,” “Jane’s beautiful,” and “You’re smart.” In
the same way, Nasrin used contracted forms of the be-verb.
Like most Indo-European languages, Farsi verbs are conjugated. Conjugation means that speakers attach endings to verbs
that provide information about the person, number, and tense of a verb. In Farsi, very often pronouns are omitted from
sentences because the verb endings imply the pronoun.

La historia, en ocasiones tarda y detiene por generaciones la gloria y el reconocimiento que merecen los héroes más valerosos. En México, los personajes más destacados de la Revolución Mexicana tardaron casi cuarenta años en recibir su reconocimiento como héroes por el Congreso de la Unión. Este no fue el caso del joven ferrocarrilero Jesús García Corona. No existe otro héroe civil en la historia de México que haya recibido tan grandes reconocimientos, muestras de aprecio y agradecimiento con tanta premura como el héroe de Nacozari. Solo unas horas habían transcurrido desde su fallecimiento y ya se entonaban las notas marciales de una admirable marcha compuesta expresamente a su memoria. No transcurrió un solo día sin que el héroe Jesús García fuese proclamado como benefactor de la humanidad. La misma tarde de los acontecimientos, el gobernador del estado de Sonora hacía reconocimiento del gran gesto heroico del joven ferrocarrilero. Al día siguiente, los diarios nacionales e internacionales proclamaban el heroísmo del héroe Jesús García Corona.
José Jesús García Corona nace un 2 de noviembre de 1881 en la ciudad de Hermosillo, Sonora. Hijo del Sr. Francisco García Pino y la Sra. Rosa Corona de García; fueron sus hermanos Trinidad, Ángela, Artemisa, Rosa, Francisco, Manuel y Miguel. En 1898, la familia decide trasladarse a Nacozari, lugar que, a finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX, se encontraba en plena efervescencia minera y ferroviaria. Fue en este pueblo minero donde logró consolidarse como buen empleado a la corta edad de 17 años. Su buen desempeño en la empresa minera le permitió ocupar el cargo de maquinista de locomotoras a la edad de 20 años.

For the second year in a row, Taylor Swift has been named Spotify's most-played artist.

The streaming service has released its annual overview of individual listening trends as well as trends from around the world — called Spotify Wrapped.

Users can now see their top artists, songs, genres, albums and podcasts, as well as uncover which artists had the biggest year on the platform.

Swift was 2024's most-streamed artist globally, ranking in more than 26.6 billion streams. She was followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake and Billie Eilish.

Swift also earned the title of most-streamed album in 2024, with The Tortured Poets Department, while Sabrina Carpenter had the most-streamed song both in the US and globally this year, with her summer hit "Espresso." It was streamed more than 1.6 billion times.

For users who want to look back at their listening habits over the year, there were some new features to explore on Spotify Wrapped.

These include a new data story called "Your Music Evolution," which shows three distinct musical phases for each user, and a personalized playlist based on them.

People like to share their Spotify Wrapped data on social media, although this year some complained that the roundup was missing certain features they'd previously enjoyed.

Streaming now accounts for most of the money generated by the music industry — 84% in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, and 67.3% around the world, according to a 2024 report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which tracks global sales.

Spotify is the largest platform of all with a reported 626 million users and 246 million subscribers.
