Bir öğretmen gemiye binmiş. Gemiciye, “Sen hiç dilbilgisi kitabı okudun mu?” diye sormuş. Gemici “Hayır, daha önce hiç dilbilgisi kitabı okumadım.” diye cevap vermiş. Bunun üzerine öğretmen, gemiciye “Ömrünün yarısı mahvolmuş.” demiş.
Gemici çok sinirlenmiş, kalbi kırılmış ama öğretmene hiçbir şey söylememiş. Bir süre sonra büyük bir fırtına çıkmış, fırtına sebebiyle gemi çok sallanmış. Gemici, öğretmene “Sen yüzme biliyor musun?” diye sormuş. Öğretmen, “Hayır, yüzme bilmiyorum.” demiş. O zaman gemici, öğretmene şunları söylemiş: Şimdi senin ömrünün tamamı mahvoldu. Çünkü gemi biraz sonra batacak!
