するとこんどは、子供の声がしました。

「母ちゃん、こんな寒い夜は、森の子狐は
　寒い寒いって ないてるでしょうね」

すると母さんの声が、

「森の子狐も お母さん狐の おうたをきいて、
    洞穴の中で眠ろうとしているでしょうね。
    さあ ぼうやも早くねんねしなさい。
    森の子狐と坊やと どっちが早くねんねするか、
    きっと坊やの方が早くねんねしますよ」

それをきくと子狐は急にお母さんが恋しくなって、
お母さん狐の待っている方へ 跳んで行きました。
