こんにちは、Japanese with Yoshikoへようこそ！多くの日本人は「サウジはとにかく暑い」と思っていますが、実はサウジにも冬があります。今日は「サウジの冬」についてお話しします。今日のフレーズは「打って変わって」です。意味を知らない人はどういう意味か想像しながら聞いてみてくださいね。

サウジの冬は12月後半から1月頃です。でも、人によって地域によって冬の定義が異なると思います。私たちが住んでいる場所は、沿岸部の平地です。夏はサウジの中でも最も暑い場所の一つです。一番寒い時期は12月後半から1月前半で日中の最高気温は17°くらい、朝晩は10°を下回ります。少し寒くなったと思ったら、一瞬で冬が終わりました。12月に入るとサウジの人は冬服を楽しみます。日中25°くらいでも公園で厚着をして遊んでいる子供たちを見かけました。日本だったら20°くらいまで半袖を着ている子供たちが多いです。サウジの家はコンクリートでできていて、リビングの床は石でできています。夏はひんやりして気持ちいいですが、冬は靴下が必須です。サウジの家族は、家が広いこともあって、冬は少し寒いと感じるようで、ストーブを出していました。
驚くべきことに、実はサウジでも雪が降る場所があります。あまり、山のイメージがないのですが、北部には2,500mほどの山があり、毎年雪が見られます。ハイキングやキャンプをする人で賑わうようです。いつか行ってみたいです。
そして、サウジの冬といえばバーベキュー!先週末の夜、また家族が集まり、3年ぶりのバーベキューをしました。日中は暖かいですが、やっぱり夜は寒いです。私たちは夜外に出る予定がなかったので、ダウンジャケットを持っていませんでしたが、なるべく厚着をさせて遊ばせました。子供たちは運転できる車やスクーターなどで遊んでハイテンション！息子は先週あんまり乗り気ではなかったのですが、前回と打って変わって、今回は終始笑顔で走り回っていました。その間に大人たちはお肉を焼いたり、焚火をしたり、おしゃべりを楽しみました。お肉は牛やラム、チキンの串焼き、ハンバーグがありました。サウジのバーベキューでは、フムスと丸いパンも一緒に食べるのが一般的なようです。息子が寝るのが遅くなって大変でしたが、だんだんいとこたちと遊ぶようになってくれて嬉しかったです。

どうでしたか？今日のフレーズは「打って変わって」でしたね。意味は「がらりと変わって、完全に変わって」です。例文です。「この町は10年前とは打って変わって、とてもおしゃれな町になったね～。」「彼は前回とは打って変わって、とても優しかった。」それではまた、ばいばーい。
