前回のエピソードで「休み」の重要な使い方を説明するのを忘れていました。前回のエピソードをまだ聞いていない人は後で聞いてみてください。

「今日私は休みです。」皆さんはこの文の意味がわかりますか？これは「今日私は仕事がありません。」という意味です。
アルバイトをしている人は「バイトがない」「シフトがない」という意味です。
何かの理由があって仕事に行かなかった場合には「今日学校を休んでいます」「昨日仕事を休みました」と言います。
仕事の予定がなかった場合は「今日は休みです」「昨日は休みでした」と言います。
また連休という言葉を聞いたことがありますか？連休とは連続した休みのことです。例えば、土日がいつも休みの人の場合、月曜日が祝日で休みの時は土曜日と日曜日と月曜日が休みなので三連休になります。

I'm off today. I went to a convenience store to buy my breakfast. I found it when I was looking for breakfast.  As soon as I saw it, I felt like I couldn't help but "pucchin" it!  What is a "Pucchin!?

「急に　プッチンしたくなりました」
今日はお休み。朝からゆったりモードで、コンビニに朝ごはんを買いに行きました。
「何をたべようかな～」と、商品棚を順番に見ていたら、なぜか！　グリコのプッチンプリンが　私の目に飛び込んできました。　コンビニで売っているプッチンプリンは、スーパーで売っている　３つで一つのものより、サイズが少し大きいです。1.5倍はあると思います。
その大きめのプッチンプリンを見た瞬間、「あ！プッチンしたい！！」と　わけのわからない衝動にかられました。
私の頭の中では、もうプルンプルンのやわらかくて　おいしそうなプッチンプリンが「早く食べて～」と言わんばかりに　揺れています。
私は　すぐにプッチンプリンとサンドイッチをかごに入れて、レジに行きました。

ところで、「プッチンプリン」って何？って思っている人もいると思います。
ですので、ちょっと説明します。
プッチンプリンは1970年代に日本のお菓子メーカー グリコが、開発、商品化し、販売した商品です。ケーキ屋さんで売っているプリンとはぜんぜんちがいます。
でも、やわらかくて　あまい、そのプリンは　子どもたちにとても人気がありました。
このプッチンプリンの入れ物には　ある一つの工夫があります。
それは、カップの裏にある小さな突起です。その突起を「ポッチ」と言ったりします。
食べるときカップからそのまま　スプーンですくって食べることもできます。
でも、ちょっと高級感を出すために、お皿を用意します。　
カップのふたをめくってから、カップを逆さまにして　お皿の上に置きます

そして、ポッチを横に倒して折ります。
その時、ポッチが　プチっと小さな音を立てて折れると、カップの底に小さな穴が現れます。
それと同時に、中のプリンがゆっくりと下がり始めるんです。
１，２，３と数える間に、プリンはプルルンと　小さく揺れながら出て来て　お皿の上に　着地します！
あとは、カップをとればいいだけです。

そうなんです。プッチンプリンは　「プッチンしたらプルルンと出る」プリンということなんです。当時、この商品を開発した人が考えた名前だそうです。

今もこのやさしい　甘い味のプリンを好きな人は　たくさんいます。
私もその一人です。　風邪をひいて、食欲がないときでも　喉通りがよくて食べやすいです。
今日は、懐かしの味　プッチンプリンのおはなしでした。

Do you go to work even when you're not feeling well?

If you do, you're not alone. A survey of workers in the US has found that 9% of people never take sick days.

Some said that's just because they don't get sick very often. But others said pressure at work makes them less likely to take sick days.

And some part-time workers said they feel financial pressure to go to work even when they aren't feeling well — because they need the money!

Yahoo News and YouGov surveyed almost 1,500 US adults — although only about half of them were actually workers, so the other half weren't able to comment.

About 16% said they take one or two sick days a year. Twelve percent said they take "a few" days, and 4% said they take "more than a few" days.

Another 3% of people said they don't have the option to take sick days where they work.

But how do your colleagues feel when you take a sick day — or when you go in to work even when you're not well?

More than one-third of people said they prefer their colleagues to stay at home if they're sick. But 5% said people should work even when they're sick.

However, only 7% of people said they always believe their colleagues really are sick when they have a day off!

Experts told Yahoo News that going to work when you're unwell isn't a sign of commitment, however — they said it just shows you're disrespecting yourself and your body.
