Bedside Italian #13 - Pomeriggio al fiume e limonata alla liquirizia (ft. the cicadas!)

In this story, an hourglass named Timer comes alive and is able to time travel. This is Part 5 of 6.  

Waking up at 5am, his most precious time of day when his genius flows like a mighty waterfall, Henry looked out his laboratory window and saw a magic moment: a baby chick was hatching from its egg. This was a sign, today Henry would complete his greatest invention. 

It looked like a simple household object, fairly inconspicuous, except for its futuristic black appearance. It had two chambers, one on the top and one on the bottom; the bottom was filled with yellow sand. They were connected by a narrow passage in which the sand flowed through. If an ordinary person had seen it, they would have believed it was an ordinary hourglass. 

But there was nothing ordinary about this hourglass. It was Henry’s latest attempt at engineering a time machine. 

Henry poured the remaining yellow sand into the top chamber and watched it fall to the bottom. He then tightly attached its cap. Taking a step back, Henry was overwhelmed with both exhilaration and trepidation. At that moment, a strong gust of wind came in through an open-window and scattered several documents across the floor. 

Henry flipped the hourglass and watched the yellow grains of sand travel through the narrow passage. As they hit the bottom, the grains changed to dark red. Henry looked out the window and saw the proud rising sun, a symbol of a new day. He watched as it slowly went back behind the mountains. He watched as the scattered documents flew up onto his desk and organized themselves as they previous were. He saw the baby chick return to its egg and the egg reassembled itself. 

Finally, the last grain of sand hit the bottom. Henry had traveled thirty minutes back in time.

今天想和大家聊一聊【中国的交通】。
在中国生活，有很多交通方式可以选择。去远的地方出差和旅游，可以选择乘坐飞机或者高铁。例如，从北京到上海，高铁大概需要五六个小时，六百块钱左右；坐飞机的话，不同日期、不同起飞时间价格差别比较大，特价机票只要400块，最贵的票要两千多。火车比较慢，价格也比较便宜，例如北京到上海的火车硬座只要156.5块，硬卧是283.5块。
如果你住在中国的城市，有什么出行方式呢？最方便的是坐地铁，不塞车很准时，缺点是上下班高峰人很多需要等。坐公车也是一个常见的选择，有可能你住的地方和工作的地方楼下就有公车站，非常方便，缺点是塞车的时候比较慢。有的人喜欢自己开车，更自由；有的人喜欢打车，打车费便宜还不用交停车费。在中国，很多大城市禁摩，所以更多的人骑电动车。你在路上可能会看到颜色鲜艳的自行车，黄色、蓝色、或者绿色，那个是共享单车。如果你要去一两公里远的地方，走路太久，打车又太近，那么骑个共享单车是最方便的。打开手机的支付宝，扫一下单车上面的二维码，就可以开锁。到达后上锁，小程序会自动计算费用，两公里大概是2.5块。
你可能不知道，在很多大城市，如果你想买车，不是想买就可以马上买。如果你要买燃油车，你需要排队摇号，这个是政府为了控制汽车的数量，减少污染以及塞车的情况。不过，如果你买的是新能源车，那就不需要摇号，这是因为政府想鼓励大家购物新能源车。现在在中国的马路上，你可以看到越来越多的新能源车，或者叫电车。除了特斯拉，也有很多中国本土的品牌，例如理想、小鹏等。

Welcome back, and you’re watching the Olympic Winter Games Review… and they are getting ready now… about to start the race… This will be a very exciting skiing event. Everyone is talking about it. Almost ready now… 

“Aaron… Aaron… Can you hear me? Or are you too busy watching TV?” says an angry voice. 

Aaron is a handsome black cat. Right now, he’s lying on the couch watching TV. His hands are on his belly and his head is on a pillow. 

His mother is standing over him. She looks upset and angry. She is wearing wet rubber gloves. 

“When will you stop?” says Aaron’s mother while looking for the TV remote. “You have been watching this show all day!”

She finds it under a pillow. She turns off the TV.

“Hey!” cries Aaron. “I was watching that! They were just about to start!” 

“I should tell your father. He won’t approve of this.”

Aaron sits up and grabs the remote from his mother’s hands. “Go tell him! I don’t think he will hear you. He’s in his bedroom watching TV too!” 

Aaron turns the TV back on and lies back down. 

Aaron’s mother breathes deeply and gives up. She goes back into the kitchen and continues washing the dishes.
