Description
The clinical Malayalam a nurse, doctor or carer needs with a Malayali patient — in Kerala, in the Gulf, or anywhere the diaspora has settled. Class 150 gave you the patient's side. This class gives you the other side of the bed: how to ask about pain, run through the symptoms, give examination instructions, explain a diagnosis and reassure a frightened family — calmly, in the patient's own language. Words in this class: എന്താ പറ്റിയത്? (enthaa pattiyathu?) – what happened? എവിടെയാണ് വേദന? (evideyaanu vedana?) – where is the pain? എത്ര ദിവസമായി? (ethra divasamaayi?) – how many days has it been? പനിയുണ്ടോ? (paniyundo?) – do you have a fever? ചുമയുണ്ടോ? (chumayundo?) – do you have a cough? തലകറക്കമുണ്ടോ? (thalakarakkamundo?) – are you dizzy? പ്രമേഹമുണ്ടോ? (pramehamundo?) – do you have diabetes? ഇവിടെ കിടക്കൂ (ivide kidakkoo) – lie down here വായ തുറക്കൂ (vaaya thurakkoo) – open your mouth ദീർഘമായി ശ്വാസം എടുക്കൂ (deerghamaayi shwaasam edukkoo) – take a deep breath പേടിക്കണ്ട (pedikkanda) – don't be afraid ഇത് ഗുരുതരമല്ല (ithu gurutharamalla) – this is not serious രക്തപരിശോധന വേണം (rakthaparishodhana venam) – a blood test is needed ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് ശേഷം (bhakshanathinu shesham) – after food In this class: • Opening questions and a precise pain assessment, including the 1-to-10 scale • The symptom checklist and the medical history questions • Examination instructions — lie down, breathe in, hold, cough • Explaining tests and medicine, and how to talk to the family when it is serious Quizzes below.
