こんにちは～！マルハバ！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です。
 このポッドキャストでは、サウジアラビアでの生活や文化、日本との違いなどについて、日本語でゆるくお話ししています。
みなさんー！お元気ですかー？
 サウジはもう夏が来てしまいました。今週から毎日、最高気温が３０度を超えるそうです。今朝は曇りだったのでランニングに行ったのですが、気温は２８度で汗びっしょりでした。湿度は４７％でそれほど高くなかったのですが、かなり蒸し暑かったです。そろそろ朝のランニングは難しくなりそうですね。
さて、今日は「日本人らしく話すコツ」についてお話ししたいと思います。それは「オノマトペ」を使うことです！
みなさんは「オノマトペ」という言葉を知っていますか？
 オノマトペとは、音や様子、気持ちを表す言葉です。オノマトペには大きく分けて二種類あります。
一つは、音を表す言葉（擬音語）です。本当の音をまねした言葉です。例えば、「にゃーにゃー」。これは何の音でしょうか？これは猫の鳴き声です。英語では meow、アラビア語では mu-a なので、全然違いますね。
もう一つは、様子や状態を表す言葉（擬態語）です。例えば「ぺらぺら」という言葉は、どんな様子を表しているでしょうか。実はこの言葉には使い方が二つあります。
 「ペラペラの紙ではなくて、厚い紙を使ってください。」
 「日本語をぺらぺらに話せるようになりたい。」
少し考えてみましょう。前者は「薄い紙」、後者は「流暢に話す」様子を表しています。
日本語には、数千から数万語のオノマトペがあると言われています。英語には数百、アラビア語には数十から百程度しかないので、それに比べるととても多いですね。
なぜ日本語にはこんなにオノマトペが多いのでしょうか？
 それは、日本語は「はっきり説明する」よりも、雰囲気や感じ、空気を共有する言語だからです。
例えば、雨が激しく降っている時は「ざあざあ」、静かに降っているときは「しとしと」、小雨のときは「ぱらぱら」。
 少し怒っているときは「いらいら」、とても怒っている様子は「かんかん」、そして、怒っているけど少しかわいく表現したいときは「ぷんぷん」を使います。
このように、オノマトペを使うと細かい気持ちや様子の違いを表しやすくなります。だから日本語は奥深く、とても魅力的だと思います。
そして、日本人は日常会話でよくオノマトペを使います。もちろん、アニメや漫画、小説などにもたくさん出てきますね。なので、日常会話をよりよく理解するためには、さまざまなオノマトペを知っておくことが大切です。オノマトペを使えるようになると、より日本人らしい表現になります。

さて、今日のフレーズは「奥深い」です。この言葉は、物理的に「入口から奥までが遠い」という意味と、「内容や意味、情緒が深く、簡単に本質を理解できない様子」を表す形容詞です。
 例えば、「この言葉は短いけど奥深い。」
 「このワインは奥深い味で気に入っています。」
