Description
Your variety announces a yes/no question twice: once with grammar ("Are you coming?", "Did he finish?") and once with a rise. Many Indian English speakers announce it once, or in a different place. The sentence keeps statement order, "You are coming?", "He has finished the report?", "You want tea?", there is no inverted "are", no helping "do", and the tune may be a rise, a rise-fall, or even a fall. What you will learn: • The statement-form question • The rise-fall question tune • Questions with no rise at all • The "Or not?" ending • Other short yes/no shapes • Answer the content, not the tune • Scenes • Practice: decode the scene • Listening strategies • Self-check questions to test your ear Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes. Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
