For example, many English learners tend to struggle with correctly pronouncing -ed endings. But don't worry! Once you know the rules, it will be much easier to remember đ
đ Take a look at this resource to help you understand the sounds that -ed endings can make and when to use each of them:
There are three ways to pronounce the -ed ending in English. The pronunciation is generally determined by the final sound (not letter) of the infinitive.
1ïžâŁ For words ending in a /d/ or /t/ sound, the -ed ending will make the /ÉȘd/ sound, which will result in an additional syllable.
2ïžâŁ For words ending in a /f/, /k/, /p/, /s/, /Ê/, or /tÊ/ sound, the -ed ending will make the unvoiced /t/ sound.
3ïžâŁ For words ending in all other sounds (including vowels), the -ed ending will make the voiced /d/ sound.
