Over the next several days, 14,000 Jews from the city and surrounding regions crammed into the old Munkács brick factory and its grounds
What is Munkacs?
What does "grounds" mean in this context?
Munkács is a town in the country of Hungary from which the Jewish population was transported to Germany during WW2.
The 'grounds' of a factory (or any building) is the land surrounding that building as part of the the whole property.
When you buy a house, there are usually 'grounds' attached to the main building e.g. garden, fields. Sometimes there are smaller building built 'in the grounds'. ( garage, workshop, storage areas, etc. - e.g. in the case of a farm.)
Grounds means area around a building or a compound.

Hi! Munkács is a 'proper noun', in this case the name of a city. 'Grounds' means the piece of land that belongs to a building. Schools have grounds, so do offices and expensive houses. ;)
