Action to promote health and fitness among young people There is no shortage of studies that show the many benefits of exercising and healthy eating not only for the physical, but also mental health. Adults are more aware of the need of exercising and having an adequate nutrition and therefore there is an increasing trend among them to have a healthier lifestyle. However, in the case of the youth, many of them do not understand the detrimental effects that a lack of exercise can have on their health since in the majority of cases the negative consequences will be felt later in life. This essay aims to cast light on ways in which health and fitness can be encouraged among young people. On the one hand, an important action could be to educate children and teenagers about health in schools increasing their knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating, the benefits of exercise and the negative repercussions and potential illnesses that a lack of it can cause, or the effects it can have in our mental health, among other topics. In this way, young people will be better equipped to make healthier choices in their daily lives. On the other hand, a way to encourage health and fitness is to change the perception young people have on sports, since many of them have the impression that sports are very competitive and that prevents them from taking part on them, since they do not want to feel pressured to be better than others and falling short of the expectations other have on them. Therefore, sports should be presented as a way of having fun while at the same time doing something beneficial for the body. In light of the above, if one of the measures had to be highlighted, that would be educating young people about the benefits of sports and the negative consequences of not exercising. This would lead to more health-conscious individuals who will surely try to incorporate healthy habits in their life, as well as break negative ones.
