Breadth is used for measuring larger entities or figurative things. For example: the breadth of the pool was 10 metres. The breadth of his empathy led him to connect to others easily.
Width is used for smaller items or physical things. For example: The width of the painting was 1 metre. The tiles run along the width of the house.
