Is there a word to describe episodes in a series that are not related to each other? like as if each of them are like standalone?
and same thing to describe episodes that are depending on one another or building up on one another?

Glenn’s answer sounds more current than the one I’ll give, but the conventional words are ‘episodic’ and ‘serial’.
‘Serial’ shows have a linear story. ‘Episodic’ ones don’t. These words have kept their meanings within the industry, I think, but have been blurred to the public.
