what's the difference between civil and civilian

Civil means relating to something that serves the public. For example a civil engineer builds things such as airports, roads, railways etc.
Civil can also mean polite/behave. If a parent instructed their kids to be civil it would mean they need to behave.
Civilian is just a person not in the military. They are part of the general population
