Professional TeacherHow to say "It was fun" in German
This innocent little phrase is a bit more complex in German. We cannot simply say "es war Spaß" — instead, we say
"Es hat Spaß gemacht".
(Note that this has nothing to do with ''making fun of something; it simply means that something was fun.)
If you want to say WE had fun, add "uns":
"Es hat uns Spaß gemacht."
Alternatively, you can say "es hat uns gefallen" - different construction but used in much the same way.
Or simply: "Es war echt schön."
You might think this last one sounds too basic, but German speakers actually use it all the time. If you want to sound really German, this is your phrase. Simple, warm, and completely natural.
