What is the rule for placing “either“ and “or” in ”There will either be a conflict or he will quit“?

The rule is that "either" should be placed directly before the first of the two alternatives being contrasted, and "or" before the second. The sentence correctly places "either" immediately before the first alternative and "or" before the second.
