If not a book, I would recommend any newspaper or a magazine article to build vocabulary on a variety of topics.

I would recommend the Harry Potter series, even if it's not a genre you generally prefer. In the beginning, the English is simpler and the story is less complex. However, as the series moves on, the language as well as the story gradually become more complicated. By the time you're done with book 7 (the last one), you will notice a great deal of difference.
