What is the difference between work in and work at?

I work in the office.
I work in the area of finance.
I work day and night at my project.
I can't do it, but I'll work hard at it.

I'm pretty sure that "works in" talks about more in general, so for example a field of work (I work in sales, or I work in Healthcare) whereas "work at" is used for a specific place (I work at a coffee shop, or I work at Spotify).
