What does "모" mean? For example, "김 모 씨". Is it like when you don't know person's name or position/specialty but only know surename and you still need to address them so you use "모" instead?

모 means 'somebody. It is used to avoid revealing the person's full name in the news or media. 김 모 씨 is a person whose last name is "김"
