Hope is what you want to happen, but you may or may not think it is probable. Expect is what you think will happen, but you may or may not want it to happen.

The main difference between expect and hope is that while hopes do not often depend on anyone, expect does.

"Hope" and "expect" are two related but distinct concepts that involve different emotional states and levels of certainty: Hope: Hope is a positive and emotional feeling or desire for a positive outcome or situation to occur in the future. It is often characterized by optimism and a sense of anticipation. Hope doesn't necessarily come with a high level of certainty, and it acknowledges that the desired outcome might not be guaranteed. Hope is more about wishing for something good to happen, even though there might be uncertainty or obstacles that could prevent it from occurring. Example: "I hope the weather will be sunny for our picnic tomorrow." Expect: Expectation, on the other hand, involves a higher level of anticipation and confidence that a specific outcome will occur. When you expect something, you have a strong belief or assumption that the event will happen as you foresee. Expectations often involve a certain level of reliance on patterns, past experiences, or logical reasoning to predict the outcome. Example: "I expect the package to be delivered tomorrow because it's usually on time." In summary, hope is a more emotional and less certain feeling about a desired future outcome, while expectation involves a stronger belief and higher level of confidence that a specific outcome will take place based on logical reasoning or past experiences.
