I used to buy many things impulsively when I was younger, and in my opinion it's a normal phase of life. It's just childhood, after all. However, once we become more mature we start to avoid these kinds of purchases.
It’s written almost perfectly, just corrected some small things and made it sound more natural
Usually, we say “in a nutshell” after we explain something in detail, and then say “in a nutshell” to provide a simpler version of what we said. It’s not super appropriate to use here because you were not explaining impulse shopping in detail.
Instead, “after all” shows that you are justifying the behavior, and saying that it’s not that bad.
