What does "end up face down in the canal" mean? "Cos I've been waiting for the right moment, when we can get them without any risk. I mean, I don't want to end up face down in the canal! And I don't want you to either! Sally! these are dangerous guys!"

I think that they are talking about a threat to their lives. They don't want to end up dead and have their bodies tossed into a canal.

A canal is an inland waterway, like a river only man-made. If you were 'face-down' in a canal you would have drowned!
