Is “ headphones“ the same as “ earphones “?
I’m confused about the two words. I thought they are different. Headphones must be worn over the head while earphones must be plugged in our ears. But according to the definitions about the two words in the dictionary, they mean the same thing. So I’m confused, I’d like to confirm from native speakers. ThThanks a lot

They are for the same basic job - to listen to something.
I would say the only real difference would be one covers your ears, the other sits within your ears.

Well they do carry the same definition in the dictionary, however, headphones are worn over the head and earphones are to be plugged in the ear. For example Samsung earphones or IPhone earplugs.

Perhaps we can use headphones for those worn over our heads. Earphones for ear buds situations. (((:

Usually, both "headphones" and "earphones" refer to the things worn over the head. "Earphones" is less commonly used and tends to be more popular with older generations. The ones that go into the ear are usually called "earbuds".
