People from different ethnic backgrounds in Taiwan may celebrate birthdays in different ways. However, I think that most young people just celebrate birthdays by hanging out with their friends and family, eating out in the restaurants, or having birthday parties with cakes. In my family, birthdays of some certain ages are considered more important than the others, such as the 60 year-old one. The family will take these days more serious and usually prepare special food or event for them.
