Can I say "Weil Deutsch eine schwierige Sprache ist, ich brauche viel Geduld."? or I have to necessarily say "Weil Deutsch eine schwierige Sprache ist, brauche ich viel Geduld."? Would it be acceptable to say the first sentence in informal spoken German? Thank you!

Confirmed what has been already said, only the second version.

"Weil Deutsch eine schwierige Sprache ist, brauche ich viel Geduld." is the only correct version because the subordinate clause has to begin with the conjugated verb ("brauche").

Your 1st option would be UNDERSTANDABLE - but uses what we consider "foreigners grammar" . I would definitely avoid it, even though you may hear similar structures in some sociolects (e.g. Turkish-German "Gangster Rap"). So, my clear opinion: Stick with the 2nd option!! Hope that helps!
