What's the meaning of "fulfillment" in this sentence? The sense of satisfaction or the process of delivering?
Initially, I understood the sentence by "Walmart's ambition in online investment finally paid off", but then I found "fulfillment" could have some fixed meaning in the delivery service, like "Fulfillment by Amazon", it appears to me that this is also working in this instance. Thank you for any replies!
{Walmart went from strength to strength during the covid-19 pandemic. Its years-long investments in online fulfilment finally began to pay off as virus-wary shoppers swapped aisles for apps. }

I think that "fulfillment" in that case refers to the process of handling and executing customer orders.
