Val
If you are a native English speaker, which is the hardest accent to understand from a non native speaker? I want to improve my pronunciation! Since in a conversation my accent betrays me 😅

Hola Val! Eres chilanga! Me parece es normal que las personas tienen dificultidades del idioma diferente que sus lenguas maternas. Tengos amigos Mexicanos. I was talking to one of my Mexican friends yesterday about this very challenge for Mexican Spanish people. I am Canadian and a native English speaker. As such, I have similar challenges when pronouncing Spanish words. It has to do with phonemes which are accent tones that develop in our brains when we are immersed in our native language. It takes hard work and practice, but you can succeed. Keep your hopes up, find a native speaker to exchange conversations. Then, give it your all. Buena suerte con sus goles.

I don’t think there is an accent which is more difficult to understand than others. Some people speak more clearly than others, and this helps the listener to understand better what they are saying. When you say that your accent betrays you, do you mean that it reveals your native language, or that it makes it difficult for the listener to understand what you are saying ?

Hi Val , I have done some excellent work on accent reduction for the purposes of being understood, particularly in a international business setting. Perhaps I can share a few tips and hints with you; and address particularly tricky pronunciation issues you may be experiencing. I have a mid-Atlantic accent; something g between an American/ British with a hint of Australian 😀 if that makes sense .
