World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is annually held on May 21 to help people learn about the importance of cultural diversity and harmony. That being said, in my country, cultural diversity is viewed in a special way because my country prides in unity. Cultural diversity is seen as a way of educating people that there’s more to life than one’s own culture hence helping people to be more open minded when it comes to other cultures. My country, Botswana, is a multilingual and a multi-ethnic nation so cultural diversity is viewed with the utmost value and respect! During this day people choose to honor the cultural diversity by not only observing the day but by bringing people of different ethic groups to come together and share their stories. It is eye opening and promotes unity among a variety of people. People in my country also spend this day by performing their traditional dance in honor of cultural diversity.
