What are your best tips for learning Spanish? How come when you say a coffee in Spanish, it is un cafe and not Uno/una cafe?

It's not una café because it's a masculine noun, not feminine. It's not uno café because it's "a coffee", just like in English: - Can I have a coffee please. - Puede darme un café, por favor. Only after that do numbers get involved: - Can I have two coffees please. - Puede darme dos cafés, por favor.

The article of coffee is EL. You use UN when the next word is a noun : Yo quiero un café. And you use UNO when you already know you are talking about coffee and ask for one or to specificate you want 1 (not 2 or 3): Yo quiero uno. Never use UNO before a noun. And uno or una depends on the article, for example: LA puerta: UNA puerta EL perro: Un perro When the article is LA, for example LA cerveza (the beer), you can say : Yo quiero una cerveza or Yo quiero una (withouth the noun because you already know you are talking about beer)
