Do you make things by your hands or with your hands?

If you do something by hand, it means that you do it manually, i.e. without machines. E.g. if you add something up by hand, you are not using a calculator. If you make something with your hands, it means you use your hands to make it. So these two phrases are slightly different. But e.g. making a cake by hand ends up meaning pretty much the same as making a cake with your hands.
