Desert Formation * Deserts have been increasing at an alarming pace. * One fourth of the Earth's land surface is threatened by this process. *Four major activities have been identified as major contributors to the desertification process: overcultivation, overgrazing, firewood gathering and overirrigation. * How does desertification happen? Due to the loss of vegetation and the accelerated erosion of the soil by wind and water. * The lack of vegetation results in the loss of the soil's ability to absorb water. * Raindrops transfer clay particles into soil spaces sealing these spaces, and don't allowing water to penetrate *When soil has lost its capacity to absorb water, vegetation dies. *In most areas desertification results from human activity. We're bunch of jerks. We are killing our planet (these were my words didn't come in the book😑)
