Professional TeacherI am from Taiwan, a beautiful island next to China, also known as “Formosa”, which is a name given by Portuguese sail man pass by in the 16th century. “Formosa” means beautiful in their language.
Taiwan has always been an ideal land for military strategic matter. In the 16th century, Several countries in the world was dedicated to international trade and colony. And their ships required a stable coal supply and suitable port to land. Soon they got their eyes on Taiwan, which could satisfy both conditions.
In addition, Taiwan has a great location in Asia. To the North, it’s Japan and Korea. To the west, it’s mainland China, and Malaysia and Indonesia are in the south. Due to the trade demand with China, European countries started taking country of Taiwan. We had been under control with Netherlands and Spain at that time.Therefore, nowadays, we can still see their ancient ruins standing in Taipei and Tainan cities.
