I was born and raised on a small island, and I immensely disliked my hometown when I was younger because there were few places to go and very little entertainment. I left that town as quickly as I could when I was 18 to attend a university in the biggest city in Japan. As you can imagine, everything there was completely different from my hometown, and although I focused on earning my degree over the passing years, I fully enjoyed the exciting and vibrant city life that Tokyo offered. Yet, for some undefined, unexplainable and unknown reason, I eventually decided to return to my hometown soon after my graduation. Sadly, it was only then that I seemingly noticed that it was surrounded by great natural beauty, and admittedly, it was only then that I truly appreciated its simple, small-town charm. It gradually dawned upon me that had I not left it years ago for school, that had I not experienced big-city life, I probably never would have come to that subtle, but character-defining understanding.
