Is it wrong to use "Wegen + dative pronoun"? which one would sound better "Wegen dir" or deinetwegen"?

Yes, it is wrong. Nevertheless many people use in spoken German and dialect wegen plus dative. Especially -wegen dir- is used a lot, in songs and in spoken German.
