Do they mean the same thing?
1) When I felt down drinking in a bar alone a song that was playing in the bar suddenly struck a chord with me.

struck a chord: affect or stir someone's emotions
struck home: to become very clear and obvious in usually a forceful or unpleasant way
Currently, however, I think they have come to mean the same thing as they sound similar and no one remembers where they came from :)
