‎Why do we say “rafiki yangu” if “rafiki” is a m/wa noun? Shouldn’t it be “rafiki wangu”?

Christine I think Rafiki yangu ndicho kiswahili mufti ....try to put that in prural and into singular again. For example-Rafiki yangu -rafiki zangu -Rafiki wangu - then what in prural?? Same as mkoba wangu-mikoba yetu

Yes,it should be "rafiki wangu",since the name "rafiki " in swahili is a noun ( nomino in swahili) . Rafiki iko katika ngeli ya A-WA. Thus "wangu" rather than "yangu",which is commonly used but wrong.

But you are correct: It SHOULD be „rafiki wangu“, but no one says it like that 😂

Sounds more native saying rafiki yangu. We'd only use wa for words starting with 'm' like Mkoba wangu
