Italian folk music genres vary greatly throughout the country. For example, the most widespread folk genre in Southern Italy is the "tarantella", a joyful and fast-paced dance which was once said to cure the negative effects of tarantula bites (hence the name of the dance). On top of that, Naples has a long tradition of melodic love songs in Neapolitan language. Personally, I don't like them very much, but they are undoubtedly part of our cultural identity as southern Italians.
