What's the difference between recent and latest?

Recent->something that has happened not long ago (other things could have happened since)
Latest-> /most/ recent

Recent means, something happen short time
before.
Latest means something that happened long time ago.
My recent confirmation came yesterday.
For that reason, I stay here to early today.
My latest confirmation came three days ago.
And, I was needed to be here yesterday
For that reason I'm late today.
